3DShipwrecks - Grace A Channon

Published on 3/9/2023
We have just added another model created from archival imagery of a Lake Michigan shipwreck to our www.3dshipwrecks.org database and website. The 141 ft canal schooner Grace A. Channon was built in 1873 sized to be used traversing the Welland Canal. In 1877 with a load of coal enroute to Chicago the canaller was struck by the propeller Favorite off Oak Creek, WI on her port bow and sank within five minutes taking the young son of the co-owner down with it. Today it sits in 205 ft of water and is a popular dive site. The model was created from 2,064 repurposed images from a 2008 video shot for the creation of a photomosaic. The photographer was Keith Meverden of the Wisconsin Historical Society working with Evan Kovacs of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Our thanks to Tamara Thomsen and the WHS for the imagery.
