Greetings GLSPS, LSMMA, SPM, WUAA Members and Friends of the S.S. Meteor,
The S.S. Meteor Preservation and Stabilization Project is coming up fast. The date is April 25 & 26, 2015. If you are receiving this email, your have either been on the project in the past or have indicated verbally that you were interested in joining us for the project. There's a task for everyone's skill set.
Even though we had a banner year in 2014 (Tenth Year) for making the old girl look good on the outside, we still have many tasks to complete. So please join us in volunteering for the 2015 S.S. Meteor Preservation Project.
If you are interested in volunteering to help us with this very worthy cause, we strongly recommend you click on this link for further details about the project. 2015 S.S. Meteor Preservation Project Official Announcement
We complete many tasks at the end of the project late Sunday afternoon. You will also meet new friends, have a lot of fun, and most of all, it will be very rewarding that you have made a difference in helping preserve maritime history.
The S.S. Meteor Whale-back Museum Ship looks more than thirty years younger than it used to just from all the volunteer efforts many of you provided for the past ten years.
The 2014 S.S. Meteor Project was a banner year. Thanks to all the sponsors that purchased a bucket of paint, the efforts of SPM, GLSPS, LSMMA and many other volunteers that helped the Meteor finally received its much needed paint job. The hull painting project took place July 27 - 28 and August 4 - 5, 2014. It took us only two weekends to prepare, primer and paint the entire ship! Thanks again to all that helped to make her look so great!
If you decide to join us, and we hope you do, we encourage you to register for the project online so we can create a roster and head count for the food.
(We do not sell or give away any of your contact information).

Thank you very much for volunteering in the past and hope you will join us again this year for the
2015 S.S. Meteor Preservation Project.
Forty plus volunteers helped complete over 38 tasks this year! Including the huge task of replacing all the roofs on the display cases. Thank you Tom Brueshaber and David Olsen. They completed all of them and up to the last hours.
Volunteers also completed many small painting tasks this year. This year the weather didn't cooperated on Saturday and restricted the outside painting efforts we had planned. Thank you to those that did much of the painting efforts this year!
We would like to give a special thank you to Tim Pranke for taking the time to research the steam engine jacking gear, lubrication needs and what will need to be done with the other gears such as the worm gear to be able to rotate the engine once again. It was a nasty greasy job! Now we have a plan as to how we move forward on this task. Thanks to Jim Christensen, Dick Giese, Bob Cragan, Darryn Wallace and others that helped off and on in the engine room.
I think there were a few more involved but I am sorry if I missed your names.
Thank you to Dale Koziol for repairing the railing and entrance gates and you donation of the Pigeon barricades. Sorry again about the boxed screen you made. It does make a great underwater sifter. There were many other wood repair and fabricated tasks you performed during the weekend as well. Thank you!
Thank you to the Craig David Family Craig, Kari and Gunner for their welding and painting efforts again this year. Nice to have that lift again right? Craig got a lot of welding done again this year!
A special thanks to Grandma's Sports Garden and LSMMA for providing lunch for the two days of the project.
I can't say enough to the volunteers on how appreciative we are for all your dedication, hard work and time all of you provided. In today's hustle and bustle world, it sometimes is very difficult to take the time to volunteer for projects such as the S.S Meteor Project. All of you have a huge heart in helping preserve maritime history!
Since the weather did not cooperate on Saturday many of the outside painting and other tasks were shorted this year. Some of us will be going back up during the summer to complete some of the unfinished tasks. We will inform volunteers via email when we do. If you would like to partake in this effort, please let us know by responding to the email or calling us.
The GLSPS will have a another "S.S. Meteor Project" Next year's date will be April 23 - 24, 2016. It will be available to register / sign up for on the GLSPS website by March 2016 or at the 2016 UMSAT Show, March 11 -12, 2016, which will be at the Ramada Hotel (near the Mall of America).
Please mark your calendars and "SAVE THE DATE"! We recommend you mark the date on your computer or online email server calendars as soon as possible to make sure the date is secured and before you schedule anything else. Paper calendars are not available yet so please use your technology to remind you!
We have over 80 photos uploaded to the GLSPS website already. Thank you to David Olsen for taking the pictures, (he was also working on the display case roofs with Tom Brueshaber) I will upload more photos as they are sent to me from this year's Meteor Project volunteers. (Including the non members) All of you will be able to view them by logging onto the GLSPS website at, www.glsps.org and then click on "Photo Album" then click on "S.S. Meteor Project 2015".

Once again we had the Saturday evening dinner buffet and free tour of the Fairlawn Mansion.
We would also like to thank Sara Blanck and her staff for their part in getting things ready for the project. We also appreciate buffet dinner and the free tour of the Fairlawn Mansion. The Fairlawn Mansion is a very elegant place to visit and take a tour. If you find yourself and family in the area this summer, please take a moment to to take them on a tour of the Mansion as well.
I am sorry I wished I could remember all your names and what task (s) you performed during the project. I wished I had the time to write about each and every one of you and what you completed this year. Who ever you are and what ever you ended up doing, you know who you are, the GLSPS and SPM really appreciate the help you provided whether you helped both days or just one of the days.
I hope all of you had a great time on the S.S. Meteor Project this year. We hope you enjoyed the comradeship and meeting new friends that this type of project provides. We hope you can join us on the project next year. Please invite your friends and colleagues. We have many new ideas and tasks to keep us entertained for quite some time. We also will have a few of the started tasks to complete. So please don't miss out of next years S.S. Meteor project. It will prove to be another great project.
Thank you again for your time and support.
We hope to see all of you next year.
