The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society has been doing more underwater archeological site survey and mapping for placing shipwrecks on the National Register of Historic Sites and for historic area mappings. To help attain trainer divers to participate these projects the GLSPS is presenting this class on underwater shipwreck documentation:
This is your chance to learn new diving related skills and get involved with exciting GLSPS projects.
The Course will allow you to learn the skills and practice the Documentation of an underwater shipwreck by drawing to scale underwater, measuring with tri-lateration, and transferring the information to a site plan once on shore.
GLSPS Introduction to Underwater Documentation
Location:
Crosby, MN, Louise Mine Pit.
About one hour and 45 minutes north of Minneapolis.
Background:
Louise generally provides good visibility and has a wide range of underwater objects at varying depths,many of which can be used as measurement and documentation subjects.
This dive site is close to Brainerd,which offers a full-service dive shop (Minnesota School of Diving) for air fills and other dive needs. Food and lodging and camping facilities are also readily available.

Where to Meet:
Minnesota School of Diving is the oldest scuba shop in Minnesota,and provides full diving services. Located in Brainerd, it is only 15 minutes away from great local diving in the flooded iron mine pits of Crosby / Ironton. The shop provides tank fills, dive equipment, and detailed diving maps of the mine pits.This link provides more information and directions.

We will leave the dive shop at 10:00 am sharp to drive in a caravan to the dive site.
Bring your own dive gear and lunch
Itinerary:
10:30 - Intro to underwater archeology
10:45 - Underwater drawing equipment and techniques review
11:45 - Drawing practice on land
12:30 - Lunch. Bring your own food and beverages
2:00 - Underwater drawing practice on items in the lake
3:30 - After dive review and drawing touch up
4:30 - Do more dives, have fun, or leave
Please note: All project participants are required to print, read and sign the GLSPS "Liability and Waiver Forms". Please don't forget to bring the forms with you to the project. Please remember, if you answer "NO" to all the Medical form questions, you do not have to fill out the second page of the Medical Form. If you answer "Yes" to any of them, you will need to have a Physician OK you to dive with the GLSPS.
