S.S. Meteor Project May be Canceled

Phil Kerber | Published on 3/30/2025
Greetings Friends of the S.S. Meteor,

We are sorry to report this, but the S.S. Meteor Project May have to be canceled.  It hasn't been totally canceled yet but there is a very good chance it will.  Please check back in a few days or as the event draws near.

We have just heard that sometime over the winter the expansion deck developed a huge one to two inch crack all the way across the ship to the top of the hull on both the port and starboard sides.

The city is labeling it as a possible danger for anyone other than City personnel or Engineers to be inside the ship.  It would present a liability for the City of Superior if the public is allowed to enter.  We or any public will not be able to gain access the ship until the crack is surveyed by the engineers and determine if it is safe for anyone other than the repair crew to enter.

As of this moment, the City of Superior and Frazer Shipyard Engineers are assessing the issue and will determine whether there is a safety issue and if the Work Weekend crew will be allowed to enter and perform the annual tasks we prepared to get the Museum Ship ready for the season.

Please check back in a few days or a week before April 24, 2025 to see if the S.S. Meteor Preservation Project Work Weekend Event is still on.

Thank you for your understanding.
